UPDATED for February 2008
Before you get involved with Robert Allen please read this:
In 1981 Robert Allen's first book called "Creating Wealth" was released. In it were some new ways to buy and sell real estate. At that time there was no such thing as creative financing and Robert Allen became a best selling author writing about it.
Robert Allen's formula is to take complicated methods and turn them into easy to understand and accepted ways of doing business. Like foreclosesure, investments, internet marketing, joint ventures etc In recent years he has moved away from Real Estate and delved into questionable money making ideas with his book "Multiple Streams of Income."
This is where I start to have a problem with Robert Allen. Having multiple streams of income sounds like a good thing, but is it? To a person trying to find the right opportunity it can cause a major focusing problem. Focusing is essential for success! How can you focus when you're trying to do multiple anything?
Motivation was Mr. Allen's next topic when he co-authored "The One Minute Millionaire" with Mark Victor Hansen. A half fiction, half fact tale that mocks our marketing intelligence. Network Marketing was later added with the nutrition giant Usana Health Sciences.
Recently, a woman from Washington, D.C. shared her story with me on the phone about her experience with the "Robert Allen Real Estate Mentoring Program" It was the same story that you hear all too often: She had gone to a seminar and was told she would be taken step by step through the process of foreclosures and "flipping" of houses in her area. This sounded great until her mentor (a retired realtor) called her up repeatedly and demanded that she go out and start knocking on doors to find a distressed property to take over. By the end of the story she was in tears. After numerous requests, no refund were given.
I think Robert Allen's books are entertaining and can be a credible source of ideas for a beginner. As far as any of his latest business ventures, I don't recommend any of them. This includes: mailed postcards that promise cash, internet marketing newsletters, websites etc...
Just because Robert Allen has been right about a few things in the past, doesn't mean everything he does works. Quite frankly, Robert Allen has gone bankrupt more than once and made millions selling his products to the public.
He has nothing to lose . . . But you do!
UPDATE
We've recently heard that Mr. Allen is having some health concerns possibly related to a bad motor vehicle accident he sustained a couple of years ago. We wish Robert Allen a speedy recovery!
After examining and testing hundreds of money-making opportunities and work at home programs, ONLY ONE brought in a paycheck that covered all my monthly expenses.
